Stamford Shakespeare Company, June 2018In June 2018 Abbey Gates made its annual visit to see the Stamford Shakespeare Company perform in the open air theatre at Tolethorpe Hall, Stamford. This year we saw "The Merchant of Venice" It's a tradition that we take a bring and share picnic to eat in the grounds before the performance. For several years we have set out our picnic in the orangery just in case it rains, but this year it was a glorious summer evening so we had our picnic in the grounds under the shade of some magnificent trees. After the picnic there was time for a stroll around the grounds. After packing away what was left of the picnic in the Ravenshead Community Bus we collected our blankets [it can get a little chilly by the end of the night] took our seats. The amphitheatre used is a natural glade which becomes quite atmospheric as the sun gradually sets. In between the actors speaking you can hear birdsong and the "baaing of nearby sheep", it is a truly remarkable setting.

Abbey Gates WI meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month except in August when we have our annual Garden Party. Meetings start at 7.30pm and are held in Ravenshead Village Hall
